Cine+Mas SF Latino Film Festival Goes on-line for 2021

The extraordinary times that we live in due to the Coronavirus Pandemic have changed the nature of festivals. Case in point, the 2021 version of the Cine+Mas SF Latino Film Festival has gone completely on-line. The festival is going on now through January 10th. There may not be any comfy screening rooms or prestigious theaters to see a film but now you can still watch these important films in the comfort of your home

Lucho Ramirez, producer and head of the Cine+Mas team have planned an ambitious festival with 70 films including shorts, Women in Film, Borderland stories, music, art, dramas, thrillers and period pieces. Included in this year’s diverse programming are new films from Cuba including the enchanting documentary “Eliades Ochoa: From Cuba To The World” (Image: Eliades Ochoa pictured above) on the story of this charismatic original member of the famed Buena Vista Social Club. “August” is a coming of age story focusing on a carefree teen in the midst of the Periodo Especial, when many Cubans took to the seas to reach American shores, whose world is starting to turn upside down as neighbors and friends start to leave the country. “Cu-Bop Across The Border” is a music documentary about two musical geniuses saxophonist Cesar Lopez who lives in Cuba and keyboardist Axel Tosca who lives in New York City. “1 of 100,000: Remembering Cuba’s Literacy Campaign” showcases two films by director Catherine Murphy: her newest work on the iconic singer-songwriter “Silvio Rodriguez: Mi Primera Tarea” and an earlier work “Maestra“.

There are fascinating entries from all over Latin America, Canada, Spain and the United States featured in this year’s festival. For more information go to www.cinemassf.org.
