Life Y La Politica. 50/50 calling out the Vote; Dharma calling out the Prez

A rebroadcast of the 50/50 livestream virtual concert to be bring out the vote on Sunday, November 1st from 5 to 7 pm PST on Facebook tinyurl.com/fb5050.  The livestream will showcase the best of the musical segments with an added new musical segment by Marc Anthony.  Among the participants from the first broadcast will feature speeches by Linda Ronstadt, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Danny Glover among others.  Music will be provided by Los Lobos, Raq Filipina, Arturo O’Farrill, Plena Libre, Paoli Mejias of the Santana band, Regina Carter, the John Daversa Quintet with Sammy Figueroa, Dafnis Prieto, Carlos De Rosa and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Meklit Hedero and more.  This livestream is produced by the hothouse global team which includes SF Bay Area based Cuban music advocate Bill Martinez who has been responsible for securing the visas of many Cuban artists who have performed in the United States in the last 3 decades.

Dharma Brass Band has just released a biting political statement “Trump Lies” produced by renowned multi-Grammy nominated producer Greg Landau for Round Whirled Records. The band is using music as a vehicle for repudiating the policies and hate-mongering messages put out by the Trump administration according to bandleader and trombonist Jamie Dubberly. The Northern California based band was recently formed by Dubberly to continue the concept of fusing the sounds Of New Orleans style brass bands with Afro-Caribbean jazz and salsa that Dubberly earlier explored a few years ago with his Orquesta Dharma’s recording “La Clave Del Gumbo”. The recording has a who’s who of notable SF Bay Area musicians:  percussionists Karl Perazo of Santana, Javier Cabanillas and Silvestre Martinez, vocalists Armando Cordova and Christelle Durandy, trumpeters Steffen Kuehn and Joe Mazzaferro, saxophonists Charlie Gurke and Ben Torres, trescero Camilo Landau and Mara Fox joining Dubberly on trombones.  The song is available now on all the digital platforms.
