New Music to Cheer Us UP!… 4/25/2020

Alexander Abreu and Havana d’Primera have released a great new single “Quiero Verte Otra Vez” which addresses the COVID_19 crisis and has a strong stay at home message. Check out the video on YouTube which features stay-at-home advocates such as Samuel Formell of Los Van Van and another drumming legend Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez. Abreu has been cranking out a string of great recordings during the last few years and this is no exception!

There’s an influx of new recordings that I have either heard or have received lately. Herman Olivera, one of the finest and original soneros in Salsa music today has released “Recuerda Que Te Quiero”. a 20 song career retrospective of the great work that features highlights of his solo career, his many contributions with giants such as Eddie Palmieri, Manny Oquendo and Libre and Jimmy Bosch along with new material and live performances. This recording swings from beginning to end. Ironically, the title track which is the bomb is only available as a single….worth the time to get it as well!

After a 20 year hiatus, all star SF Bay Area percussionist Jose Flores and his Conjunto Flores will be releasing a new single “Los Millionairos” on Happy Sanchez’ HipSpanic All Stars label in July. The catchy single which includes vocalist Jose Luis Perez is already getting some advance airplay on Chuy Varela’s Latin Jazz program on KCSM FM. You can hear it this coming Saturday night on my program Con Sabor from 9 to 11 pm on KPFA 94.1 FM and kpfa.org. Flores made his reputation in the 1970’s and 80’s performing with Francicsco Aquabella and Tipica Cienfuegos in the SF Salsa scene.

Until next time….Ciao 4 now!
