Sabiduria Con Tumbao featured an interview with Tipica 73 and Mambo Legends Orchestra co-founder Johnny “Dandy” Rodriguez. Dandy, as he’s known to his friends, played bongos, cowbell and percussion with the giants of Salsa and Latin Jazz such as Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, Ray Barretto among others over his long, illustrious career. He started his professional career as a teenager with Puente and reunited with Tito after he left Tipica 73 in 1979. He stayed, played and was the road manager for Puente until his death in 2000. Dandy continued to play and record with the Latin Giants Of Jazz which morphed into the Mambo Legends Orchestra. He will soon record with his new group The Dream Team. I had the opportunity to interview him at length and aired the interview broken up into 2 parts during this program.
