Salsa SF Radio: WorldSalsaRadio.com celebrates

The SF Bay Area has always been a hub of great Latin music on the airwaves. Salsa, Latin Jazz and Cuban music fans in the SF Bay Area are treated to weekly programs on public radio stalwarts KPFA, KPOO, KCSM, KKUP and KBBF who boast great, knowledgable DJ’s who know their music and craft.

Now the new SF Area based 24 hour salsa internet radio station WorldSalsaRadio.com transmits Salsa, Timba and Latin Jazz under the Afro Latin Music brand on a 24 hour basis with daily programs hosted by Radio DJ’s interspersed with hot programmed music. The radio station was born a little more than 5 months ago by Felipe Martinez a.k.a. DJ El De La Clave SF who is the station CEO and co- founded the station with Ivette Fuentes “DJ La Coqui” and Orlando Felix “DJ Boricua”. Martinez, Fuentes and Felix were hosting shows at a locally based internet station. Not satisfied with the station’s direction, Martinez decided to form another station that would embrace a more sophisticated approach to the music and that educated the public as well.

The station just celebrated their five month anniversary on December 19th with “Sabroso-The Afro-Latin Groove” a 16 hour holiday blowout featuring the majority of the WorldSalsaRadio.com on-air staff including yours truly. It was a smokin’ broadcast with the staff throwing down fiery sets from around the world including Greece, England, Israel, Colombia, Mexico City, Spain, New York, Boston, Utah, Los Angeles and the SF Bay Area. You can check out their schedule of daily programs and special concerts at their website: WorldSalsaRadio.com. Be sure to check out my weekly WorldSalsaRadio.com program “Sabiduria Con Tumbao” Wednesdays 5 to 7 pm PST as well as my program “Con Sabor” Saturday evenings 9 to 11 pm PST on KPFA 94.1 FM and on-line at www.kpfa.org.
