Happy Mother’s Day/Feliz Dia De Las Madres 5/10/2020

Woke up at 6 am to feed our insatiably hungry dog Commdore, shower up, get dressed, eat my breakfast burrito creation and finish up my coffee, I set up my Mother’s Day gift for my wife Isidra at the dining room table and I’m finally ready to share a few thoughts on this early Sunday morning. First of all, Happy Mother’s Day/Feliz Dia De Las Madres to all those special ladies in our lives. You deserve well deserved props not only today but every day. Thanks to the special queens who love us and take care of business. Thank You/Gracias!!! Now to some other thoughts today.

Music in general including musicians, bands, dj’s, mc’s, concerts, festivals, venues, clubs, bars, restaurants, promoters, publicists, sound and stage crews and related staff have taken a massive hit during this coronavirus pandemic. When I watch the depressing news that there are more than 33 million people unemployed and 61 percent are Hispanic/Latino. I’m staying to myself WTF!! Talk about a wake up call. The Hispanic/Latino…Latinx.(or what we want to call ourselves) population are suffering the most during this economic downturn. A lot of talented people are not working right now.

The music industry has come to a standstill for most music industry workers since there are no live performances allowed due to the pandemic. There are many talented artists who are posting their live performances, archival footage of past shows, online collaborations with other artists and daily posts on social media. Most of them are asking for contributions to their virtual money jar. Please consider donating to the artist when you visit their livestream especially if you like what they’re doing online. So please support these artists by donating at their livestream donation box during their broadcast. There are livestreams from local, national and international artists every day online so do what you can.

Latin Music on the public radio airwaves is not immune to the Coronavirus situation. My radio station, KPFA 94.1 FM in the San Francisco Bay Area/Northern California and on-line at www.kpfa.org is having their Spring fund drive starting this Tuesday, May 12th. I would appreciate your support since I will be broadcasting fund drive shows on Saturdays May 16th and May 23rd from 9 to 11 pm on KPFA. Please support the station especially if you are a listener of my program “Con Sabor”. We need to support Latin Music on our airwaves!! For general information on the fund drive, go visit www.kpfa.org.

Enjoy the company of your loved ones and stay safe! Ciao 4 now!!
