New Releases Spotlight 9/6/2020

Two hot new releases have come at the traditional end of Summer thanks to Tromboranga and Gilberto Santa Rosa.

Tromboranga from Barcelona, Spain is a Salsa powerhouse of a band with a swinging trombone sound who have just released their new recording “Salsaterapia”. This highly acclaimed Salsa Dura orchestra is led by Venezuelan bandleader, timbalero and percussionist Joaquin Arteaga. The band have eight recordings (including the 2013 Solo Para Collecionistas Vol. 1 EP) under the belt that are favorites of DJ’s, tastemakers, dancers and aficionados worldwide. Their latest Salsaterapia starts with the explosive opener “El Cuero Del Tambor” features Arteaga on timbales on a fiery call and response with vocalist Diego Coppinger, their sharp observations on global racism on the socially conscious state of the world commentary of “El Mundo Al Reves”, the heartfelt “Guaguanco Es Mi Vida”, the smokin’ instrumental “Trombon Pelao” featuring solos by pianist Rafa Madagascar and Arteaga on bongo and the tongue-in-cheek break up anthem “Devuelveme Los Discos” are favorites of mine. These nine tracks were just recorded in July and have arrived to give us the Salsaterapia that we need.

El Caballero De La Salsa, Gilberto Santa Rosa has just released his new recording “Colegas”. Santa Rosa’s glorious take on the all star duet recording concept brings together a lineup of stellar talent such as Jose Alberto “El Canario”, Tito Nieves, Tito Rojas, Choco Orta, Herman Olivera, Victor Manuelle, Issac Delgado, Luisito Carrion, Francisco Rosado “Pirulu”, Maelo Ruiz, Ismaelito Rivera, Juan Jose Hernandez, Carlitos Ramirez, Yan Collazo, Michelle Brava and Nino Segara. The recording features explosive Salsa brava, smooth pop salsa, romantic Boleros and infectious Son Montunos with gusto provided by Santa Rosa and this impressive lineup of guest star vocalists. Santa Rosa interprets the music of top notch Cuban and Puerto Rican songwriters Arsenio Rodriguez, Bobby Capo, Jose Curbelo, Alain Perez, Johnny Ortiz, Titi Soto, Pedro Luis Ferrer, Charlie Donato, Victor Manuelle, Calixto Varela, Hector Rivera and others with swing y afinque. Colegas is going to be one of the huge Salsa blockbusters of the year.
