I got the news on Monday, February 15th that we lost a giant in Latin Music. Johnny Pacheco (born Juan Pablo Pacheco Knipping) died on Feb. 15th at the age of 85. Pacheco, the brilliant musician, producer, composer, arranger, bandleader, co-founder of Fania Records and the creator of the worldwide sensation The Fania All Stars influenced generations of Salsa and Latin Music musicians. Pacheco was given credit for coining the word “Salsa” to denote the genre under whose umbrella included the Guaracha, Son Montuno, Danzon, Cha Cha Cha, Guajira, Boogaloo, Pachanga among others. We celebrated the music of Johnny Pacheco with a Sabiduria Con Tumbao tribute on WorldSalsaRadio.com on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Here is the playlist:
