It’s Carnaval Time Again!

It’s a glorious time to celebrate with your fellow human beings when Carnaval San Francisco reboots in it’s majestic glory this weekend, May 28 and 29th after two years of downsized celebrations due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. It’s going to be a righteous celebration of Life on the streets of the Mission District. The theme this Carnaval comeback year is Colores De Amor (Colors Of Love). I see the countless social media posts from excited Carnavalescos, dance contingents, scheduled stage performers, community leaders, city politicians, media personalities and spokespeople regarding the weekend’s Carnaval parade, two day festival and associated parties. Yes, Carnaval San Francisco is back! And if you can’t make it, the Carnaval Parade will be streamed live on Sunday morning, May 29th starting at 10 am on kpix.com.

The COVID hasn’t entirely disappeared but people are just hungry to celebrate life together. To share in the communal joy that this wonderful event has brought to San Francisco since the late 1970’s. The two day festival will feature numerous stages from 11am to 6 pm with the two main stages on 17th Street and 22nd Street will feature the talents of Los Rakas, Momotombo SF, Jesus Diaz Y Su QBA, SambaDa, Javier Navarette and his Socially Distant Friends, Puro Bandido, Dos Four, Azul Latino, Annette Aguilar and her West Coast Stringbeans, Los Alegres Callejeros, Aqua Pura, Chhotti Maa, Namorados Da Lua, Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble, Magna Freaq and the Lazer Bladez, the Afro Cuban Ensemble of SF State University and others! There will also be a LGBTQI stage, a Comparsa themed stage with DJ areas on various streets. Congratulations to Roberto Hernandez, Rodrigo Duran and the Carnaval SF Team for what promises to be a spectacular return of Carnaval San Francisco.
