Music Notes 6/8/22 – Alain Perez, SF Jazz Fest & More

The charismatic vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Alain Perez will be visiting the San Francisco Bay Area coming up the next two weekends at two special shows. Perez will be part of the “Homenaje A La Musica Cubana” show along with Mayito Rivera “El Poeta De La Rumba” formerly of Los Van Van along with Van Van alumni Yeni Valdes, Lily “La Amazona” Hernandez, JC Five and others this Saturday, June 11 at Roccapulco, 3140 Mission Street, San Francisco. The following weekend on Saturday, June 18, Perez will be part of the all-star Con Tumbao project led by Cuban superstar Issac Delgado (pictured left) at the 39th Annual SF Jazz Festival taking place at the SF Jazz Center, Franklin and Fell Sts. in SF for 2 shows at 7 and 9:30 pm. Perez will be playing bass as part of an incredible ensemble featuring Superstar vocalist Issac Delgado, SHO pianist Oscar Hernandez, percussionist Pedrito Martinez, timbalero Tony Succar, drummer Robby Ameen, saxophonist Bob Franceschini, trombonist Conrad Herwig, trumpeters Mike Rodriguez and Juan Manguía! It should be a great evening with these great talents playing together.

SF JAZZ and the 39th Annual San Francisco Jazz Festival are featuring an impressive array of Salsa, Mambo, Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz in addition to the Issac Delgado/Con Tumbao show. The festival started last night with Grammy winners and SF Bay based Pacific Mambo Orchestra.  Followed tonight by Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Grammy nominee Aymee Nuviola; Chucho Valdes with Dianne Reeves and Joe Lovano June 12; Changui Majadero June 13 in the smaller Joe Henderson Lab, Danilo Perez Global Messengers plus opener pianist Dayamir Gonzalez on June 14. SF JAZZ is also teaming with Stanford University to present an outdoor concert with two legends Piano master Eddie Palmieri and trumpet phenom Arturo Sandoval at Stanford’s Frost Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 23rd at 7:30 PM.
