Tribute To Cesar “Pupy” Pedroso will take place Sat 7/30; Music News 7/27/2022!

There will be a Tribute to the late, great pianist, composer, arranger, innovator, visionary and co-founder of Los Van Van, Cesar “Pupy” Pedroso (photo by Tom Erhlich) this coming Saturday, July 30th, 9 pm at the Continental Club, 1658-12th Street in Oakland. The show will feature Pupy’s all-star band “Los Que Son Son” with special guest, “El Noro”, one of the hottest singers in Cuba today. The show was originally supposed to have taken place a few weeks ago but was delayed due to visa problems which have been resolved. Since Pupy passed away on July 17th at the age of 75, the show will be a tribute to his musical legacy.

The last time that I spoke to Pupy was in 2018 during the Habana Jazz Festival a.k.a. Jazz Plaza at La Casa De La Musica in Miramar. Pupy was in good spirits and had fond memories from his 2010 show at the defunct Cafe Cocomo in SF. His performance with his band Los Que Son Son was extraordinary. The band boasted 4 great lead vocalists, the band was tight to perfection and each of the musicians were top notch! Something to look forward to along with the addition of superstar guest El Noro.(who was part of the band at the 2010 Cafe Cocomo show). The show will also feature DJ Antonio and DJ Byron. Short Bits: The Latin Rhythm Boys will be headlining at Yoshi’s, Jack London Square this coming Saturday, July 30 at 7:30 pm. The dance floor will be open for dancing. The band, led by brothers Earl and Henry Miranda features a ferocious horn section led by trombonist Ric “Mightybone” Feliciano. They will be joined by special guests percussionist Mio Timbalero Flores and vocalist Eduardo Herrera so expect musical fireworks on the bandstand Saturday evening.
