Con Sabor Special Fund Drive Edition Tonite 12/10/22 9pm on KPFA 94.1 FM & kpfa.org!

Hi Everyone, I will be celebrating my KPFA radio program Con Sabor’s 25th Anniversary as the year comes to a close. The program will air tonight, Saturday December 10th from 9 to 11 pm on KPFA 94.1 FM and online at www.kpfa.org. I have prepared a special program for tonight. I will be celebrating with excerpts of live performances that I have hosted and produced throughout the years. Tonight I will be featuring violinist extraordinare Anthony Blea y Su Charanga (formerly Charanson) with special guest John Santos from a New Year’s Eve broadcast going back to 2005! The segment will also feature an interview with Blea, John Santos and vocalist/composer Orlando Torriente who performed that evening.

Tonight I will also feature a hot number from Grammy Award winners Pacific Mambo Orchestra from a live broadcast from the late SF Salsa palace Cafe Cocomo recorded in 2011 before PMO won the Grammy for Best Latin Tropical recording beating out the likes of superstar Marc Anthony! The song will feature the amazing all-star percussionist Karl Perazo (Santana/Karabali) on Timbales! Former lead vocalist Alexa Weber Morales is also featured on this great live track from PMO co-led by two incredible talents: pianist Christian Tumalan and trumpeter Steffen Kuehn.

I will also feature some nuggets from the Con Sabor Live Sessions series which ran from 2015 to 2018 featuring the best bands in the SF Bay Area! Orquesta Borinquen featuring the vocals of Carlos Xavier recorded in the KPFA studios back in 2016. And…the progressive Salsa/Latin Jazz sound of the Cabanijazz Project led by PMO Grammy Award winning conguero Javier Cabanillas. This live performance will feature the phenomenal vocals of Christelle Durandy who is now lead vocalist for Pacific Mambo Orchestra as well as enjoying a solo career with her Sanktet!

The program will be rounded out with hot new releases by Sonido Solar featuring El Maestro Eddie Palmieri, trumpeter/vocalist Richie Vee (aka Richie Viruet from Spanish Harlem Orchestra), Orquesta Cafe Con Leche and Cuban vocalist Donny Reyes collaborating with the hot European band La Maxima 79! Also featured on tonight’s program a smokin’ classic from Tommy Olivencia with Gilberto Santa Rosa, the latest from the John Santos Sextet and Don Perigñon y La Puertorriquena.

This program is contributing to the KPFA Fund Drive whose goal is to raise $300,000 by Friday, Dec. 16th. I want to do my part but I need your help by donating to KPFA this evening! I want to show that Salsa, Latin Jazz, Musica Cubana listeners support this music on the airwaves. It’s important to show support in this age of streaming services, self made playlists and other media options. Please consider making a donation this evening to support the program and my work mission to keep this music, interviews that I have featured on the program, music calendar and ticket giveaways on the air. Thanks to the communities that have shown support during the past 25 years. It has been my passion. I hope that I have done it well. I will continue to broadcast in 2023 so please show your monetary support this evening. Thanks….I can’t do it without you!!
