Feliz Año Nuevo/Checking in on 1/6/2022

Happy New Year/Feliz Año Nuevo! I hope that this New Year will see us moving past this dark COVID period. Especially for my friends, colleagues and artists that I work with and admire in Music and Media. The Music industry (which I’m a part of as a live DJ and event MC) is still hurting due to the ongoing COVID pandemic which will hopefully end soon or will evolve into something that we may have to deal with for a long time. I am facing this period with hope, optimism, courage and the tenacity needed to move forward no matter what. So I’m sharing some news about my activities during the past few months.

I recently celebrated the 25th Anniversary of my radio program “Con Sabor” on Saturday evenings 9 to 11 PM PST on KPFA 94.1 FM and streaming on www.kpfa.org on January 1st featuring the Best of 2021. I will continue to celebrate throughout this coming year with special segments that will feature highlights from the program’s archives. It has been a privilege and an honor to serve the SF Bay Area/Northern California communties in keeping my own personal mission to keep this rich, vibrant music alive. My love for Salsa, Latin Jazz, Musica Cubana from Son to Timba continues to thrive. I have been an aficionado of all types of music since I was 8 years old. That was my inspiration to dive into music programming in radio when I was given the opportunity at the age of 20. You can access past programs for 2 weeks after the program was aired at www.kpfa.org/archives.

During the COVID year of 2020, I was invited to join the roster of a new internet station WorldSalsaRadio.com by the station’s CEO Felipe Martinez “DJ El De La Clave SF” and the station’s co-founders Orlando Felix “DJ Boricua” and my old DJ colleague at the legendary Jelly’s club, Ivette Fuentes “DJ La Coqui” (who left WSR last year). My program “Sabiduria Con Tumbao” broadcast Wednesday evenings 5 to 7 PM PST will be turning a year and half old this month. I have featured interviews with prominent artists, artist profiles and the Six at 6 pm segment featuring the music of a prominent artist, band or theme. The station is having a fundraising marathon that will feature the majority of the station’s DJ’s on Saturday, January 15th. The DJ staff features great, knowledgable DJ’s from the U.S., Europe, and Mexico. The station is on 24 hours, 7 days a week with live programs listed in the show schedule at www.worldsalsaradio.com. All of my past WSR programs can be accessed by visiting soundcloud.com and search for world salsa radio.

I had the honor of being one of 60 Salsa dj’s worldwide that have been included in the second edition of the book Esta Salsa Me Gusta DJ’s Edition 2″ by Saúl Delhom. I was asked what Salsa song influenced me to pursue my dual careers in Media and Entertainment as a Radio Host, Producer and ultimately a live Salsa DJ. My photo and story is included in this book that you can order though Amazon.com. It’s great to be include with so many talented folks who share the same passion for this incredible music.

I also started writing a monthly column for International Salsa Magazine on the San Francisco Bay Area/Northern California Salsa Scene since this past November. You can check out my current column for January 2022 and the rest of the magazine which covers Salsa music and dance in the U.S., Europe, Latin America and the Far East written by correspondents in those areas by visiting www.salsagoogle.com.

And… I will continue to make these blog entries regarding music, media and entertainment in this New Year. Thanks for your support!!
