One of the young virtuosos of Cuban Jazz piano, Harold Lopez-Nussa (pictured left) will be bringing his quartet to Berkeley’s Freight and Salvage, 2020 Addison Street this Thursday, October 28 at 8 pm. Lopez-Nussa put out a hot recording “Te Lo Dice‘ on Mack Avenue last year that featured his jazzed up versions of Cuban dance music including “JazzTon” that mixed Reggaeton with Jazz! Lopez-Nussa displays his virtuosity and his playful, imaginative flair to these compositions on “Te Lo Dice“. The quartet features his brother Ruy Lopez-Nussa on drums, Loques Curtis on bass (from Eddie Palmieri’s band) and Harmonica great Gregorie Maret.

Our friend, Anthony Blea…the all-star violin virtuoso has started a new Friday night scene at the Gestalt Bar, 3159 16th Street near Valencia in San FranciscoBlea, led his popular Anthony Blea y Su Charanga (formerly Charanson) for many years and was part of legendary SF based bands such as Orquesta Batachanga and Tipica Cienfuegos.   Blea is featuring his hot quartet which includes bassist Ayla Davila and conguero Javier Navarette.   In the short time that Blea and his quartet have played the Gestalt, there have been special guests that have dropped by to sit in with the band on these Friday nights. The Seahorse in Sausalito is taking a break from offering Salsa on Saturdays during the month of November. Their Sunday schedule for Salsa looks hot: rising Salsa star Carlos Xavier on Nov. 7, Edgardo Cambon y Candela on Nov. 14, Louie Romero and Mazacote on Nov. 21 and Anthony Blea on Nov. 28th. DJ music will be provided by Jose Ruiz from KPOO/KPFA Radio.

Rocky’s Market located at the Brooklyn Basin in Oakland is closing down their live music season at the end of this month. Percussionist Javier Navarette who is the curator for the Modupue Sundays will be featuring a Halloween Bash “Dedicated To The Ancestors” next Sunday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7:30 pm featuring his hot Javier Navarette and his Socially Distant Friends with PMO vocalist Christelle Durandy, vocalist/percussionist Hector Lugo, Kai Lyons on guitar, percussionist Jesse Weber, saxophonist Charlie Gurke, bassist Ayla Davila and special guests Quatro phenom Pedro Pastrana and violinist Anthony Blea.

Short Notes: Juan Escovedo will be having a CD (or is it called streamings now?) release party on Monday, Nov. 8, 8 pm at Yoshi’s, Jack London Square in Oakland…..Jaffe Events is presenting another DJ Rooftop Day Party “Salsaween” this coming Saturday, October 30, 3 to 7 pm at the Bel Hotel, 50-8th Street in San Francisco….Julio Bravo and Salsabor are the featured band for Space 550’s reopening this coming Friday at 550 Barneveld St. in San Francisco.….The Seahorse will also feature Julio Bravo and Salsabor for their Halloween bash next Sunday starting at 5 pm. The party will also feature resident DJ Jose Ruiz….The Ramp located at 855 Terry Francois near the water in San Francisco will feature the Salsa Caliente All Stars with special guest Karl Perazo of Santana this Saturday, Oct. 30 at 5 pm
