The Freight and Salvage, 2020 Addison Street in Berkeley presents Cuban Jazz world traveler Omar Sosa who will bring his latest SUMA project that features Senegalese Kora master Seckou Keita and the renowned Venezuelan percussionist Gustavo Ovalles this coming Friday April 15 and Saturday April 16th.  For tickets and information, visit www.thefreight.org.

La Peña Cultural Center, 3105 Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley is presenting their 2nd in a series of “Baila-Community Dance Party” on Friday, April 22 from 7 pm to 1 am. Featuring Edgardo Cambon and Candela, DJ Jose Ruiz spinning in-between sets and after the dance/concert in the theater, a Bachata dance party with DJ Ron spinning Bachata in the lounge, Salsa and Bachata dance lessons by In Lak’ech Dance Company. Things are heating up in the East Bay at Yoshi’s in Jack London Square on the Latin side.  Yoshi’s is featuring on Wednesday, April 20th, Orquesta La Moderna Tradicíon who will return with their crowd pleasing Charanga sound!  This ensemble of great musicians now have the talents of Dr. John Calloway on flute and Jeff Cressman on trombone to add more firepower to their explosive sound!  La Moderna Tradicíon is under the direction of violinist Tregar Otton and percussionist Michael Spiro.  Expect a wide range of swinging Cuban music from Danzon to Cha Cha Cha to Timba.  La Moderna Tradicíon shows have been consistent sell outs so get your tickets fast!  For more information, visit www.yoshis.com

The Ramp, 855 Terry A. Francois Blvd. in SF presents a diverse lineup of swinging Salsa bands on Saturdays starting at 5 pm.  Their April schedule includes Julio Bravo Y Salsabor 4/16; Trumpeter Julius Melendez All Stars 4/23 and Orquesta La Original w/Alexis Guillen 4/30.  DJ Mendy spins in-between the sets and from 9 to 11 pm.  Whether it’s outdoors or under the big tent, The Ramp is a fine way to spend a late Saturday afternoon and early evening in SF 

The Seahorse across the Golden Gate Bridge at 305 Harbor Drive in Sausalito offers a unique night spot with indoor and outdoor spaces with room to dance, fine Italian food, wine and beer at their venue.  April is a hot month on Saturday and Sundays featuring Rumbache 4/16; Louie Romero & Mazacote 4/17; Julio Bravo 4/23; Eric Rangel & Orquesta America 4/24 and La Clave Del Blanco on 4/30KPOO/KPFA DJ Jose Ruiz spins in between the sets. 

The Cigar Bar, 850 Montgomery in San Francisco keeps the good live Latin music flowing every Friday and Saturday evening.  In addition to the live music, you can enjoy a cigar, fine food, drinks and a separate room for live music and dancing.  Their April lineup is as follows: Orquesta La Original 4/15; Somos el Son 4/16; Orquesta Taino 4/22; Edgardo & Candela 4/23; N’ Rumba 4/29; and Pacho y Orchesta Evolution 4/30.

Dance Fridays at Space 550 have reopened with a lineup of popular bands including N’Rumba this coming Friday April 15; A Dancer’s DJ Night with 3 rooms featuring Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba DJ’s and Orquesta Borinquen to end the month on April 29th.  Dance Saturdays has reopened with a big Bachata Takeover last Saturday and features a mix of Bachata and Salsa themed events.  Space 550 features a multi room environment that is located at 550 Barneveld in SF

World Salsa Radio.com is holding their monthly Salsa social on the last Friday of the month at The Beat, 2560 Ninth Street in Berkeley.  Featured DJ’s are WSR CEO Felipe Martinez “El De La Clave SF” and Orlando Felix “DJ Boricua” one of the co-founders of WSR.  Both have radio programs on WSR. The socials also feature special dance performances and an occasional guest DJ each monthDance lessons start at 9 pm and the music begins at 10 pm.
