I interviewed the popular African vocalist Ricardo Lemvo who has a great recording out called N’Dona Ponte. Lemvo, originally from Kimpese in the Congo created his infectious signature sound that mixes his rich vocals on top of infectious Cuban Son, Salsa dura with African rhythms such as Semba, Kizomba and Soukous for the past 25 years. Lemvo and Makina Loca are a hot act both live and on your stereo.
The Six at 6 pm tribute spotlight to the winners of the Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin category…Grupo Niche from Colombia for their latest recording “40” which celebrates their 40th Anniversary. Music Director Jose Aguirre has been filling the big shoes of his mentor, the late creator, vocalist and composer Jairo Varela since Varela’s death in 2012. We featured 6 of Niche’s classics and a track from “40″. We also gave a mini tribute to the late Jimmie Morales “Mr. Slap” who has played with Willie Rosario and most recently, Gilberto Santa Rosa.
