SF Music News – RIP Jimmy Arhon SF’s DJ Griego & More

One of the SF Bay Area Salsa scene’s colorful personalities Jimmy Arhon, DJ Griego (pictured left in photo with Luis Medina) passed away in his sleep on Friday, Aug. 27. He was 70. Arhon at the time of his sudden passing was DJing Sunday evenings at the Seahorse in Sausalito and had resumed his long time role as manager for SF Bay Area favorites Julio Bravo Y Salsabor. Arhon, originally from Greece was an avid and admired Salsa dancer, a music lover who actually played in a rock n’roll band in his teens and a classy and genuine gentleman who connected with people with his engaging personality. He deejayed at the Seahorse during the heavy COVID surge for tips last year which helped keep the venue doors open for Salsa. Jimmy also served as DJ for Bravo on his club dates which increased his popularity with the public. Most of all, Jimmy will be missed for his kind spirit and bubbly enthusiasm. RIP Jimmy!

Speaking of the COVID, there will be no Redwood City Salsa Festival this year. However, Ruben Blades announced his Bay Area date at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland on Saturday, Nov. 20th. He will be backed up by Roberto Delgado and His Orchestra as they tour to support their latest recording “Salswing” which combines Salsa, Jazz and Swing music. The recording has been receiving critical acclaim, consistent radio airplay and is one of Ruben’s finest recordings. Tickets for the November show are on sale now.
