Thanksgiving/Indigenous Peoples Day Weekend in the SF Bay/Live Music

Known worldwide as “The Queen of Percussion”, Sheila E and her group The E Train will be headlining this holiday weekend at Yoshi’s, Jack London Square in Oakland. Sheila E’s latest recording “Bailar” has been nominated for a Grammy in the Best Tropical Latin album for 2024 which will be decided early next year! Sheila is the daughter of the legendary Latin Jazz bandleader-timbalero Pete Escovedo, her brothers Juan and Peter Michael Escovedo are top tier percussionists, her uncles include the late, great Coke Escovedo of Azteca and Santana fame and singer/songwriter Alejandro Escovedo and the legendary Tito Puente was her godfather. She scored huge hits such as “The Glamourous Life”, ‘A Love Bizarre”, “Erotic City”(duet with Prince) and “The Belle Of St. Mark”. Sheila has performed and collaborated with Prince, Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock George Duke, Gloria Estefan, and Billy Cobham to name a few. Known for her fiery live performances, the early shows of this weekend of dates are all sold out but there are tickets for the late shows still available. Other live music happenings this weekend: the super talented pianist/trumpeter Marco Diaz and his all star group El Tren will be holding court at Cascal in Redwood City on Saturday night, Nov. 30th. Marco is an all star who regularly performs with the John Santos Sextet, Bobi Cespedes group and Charanson. Check it out!…..Henry Cabrera y Su Orquesta from Los Angeles will be coming up to play this Sunday at Mama Kin, San Jose’s popular Sunday salsa dancing spot starting at 5 pm…..Edgardo Cambon and Latido will be playing at their popular Sunday Salsa rooftop party at Cavaña at the Lume Hotel, 100 Channel Street in San Francisco starting at 5 pm. There is no cover!……Julio Bravo and Salsabor will be performing this Sunday at the Seahorse in Sausalito starting at 5:30 pm. DJ Jose Ruiz will be providing the sounds in-between the sets. Julio will also be celebrating their 30th Anniversary with invited special guests at the Seahorse on Saturday evening, December 14th starting at 7 pm.
