The Weekend is here…7/30 & 7/31

The Tribute to the late Cesar “Pupy” Pedroso (photo-Tom Ehrlich) featuring his orquesta Los Que Son Son with special guest El Noro will arrive in the East bay tonight starting at 9 pm at the Continental Club, 1658-12th Street in Oakland. Cesar “Pupy” Pedroso who passed away on July 17 at the age of 75 due to heart failure was a renowned pianist, composer, arranger, producer and co-founder of Los Van Van. The featured artists, Pupy’s orquesta Los Que Son Son will perform with El Noro as the special guest attraction. El Noro appeared at Pupy Y Los Que Son Son SF debut in 2010 at the late SF Salsa dance palace Cafe Cocomo. Los Que Son Son have a fierce four vocal front line in front of a great orquesta conceived and led by the late great pianist. They have released 10 recordings and have emerged in as one of the top acts in Cuba.

César “Pupy” Pedroso is one of the key figures not only in Timba, but in the last 40 years of Cuban pop music. One of Cuba’s best and most prolific composers, he also played a seminal role in revolutionizing the art of salsa piano playing. In the summer of 2001, he left to form his own group, “Pupy y Los Que Son Son” with great success.

ALSO IN OAKLAND….The Latin Rhythm Boys, one of our favorite live bands. They are ferocious on stage led by brothers Earl and Henry Miranda. They will be featured tonight at 7:30 pm at Yoshi’s, Jack London Square in Oakland. A mighty horn section led by vocalist/trombonist Ric “Mightybone” Feliciano compliments the combustable combination of tres, cuatro, full percussion and rhythm section. They will be joined by the fine percussionist Mio Timbalero Flores and lead vocalist Eduardo Herrera. Their current recording Celebrando includes the participation of vocalist Willy Torres. Yoshi’s will have a dance floor available for all the bailadores!

If that wasn’t enough…the swinging vibes band VibraSON with special guest Santana percussionist Karl Perazo appear tonight at the Seahorse, Sausalito, 305 Harbor Drive KPFA/KPOO DJ Jose Ruiz starts at 6:30 pm, the band at 7:30 pm. VibraSON has a great reputation with dancers and music aficionados. Get ready to dance.
