Tommy Igoe, SHO, Tito Puente Jr.-Yoshis; La Moderna Tradicion-Rockys

It’s a busy week for Latin Music in the SF Bay: Starting at Yoshi’s, Jack London Square in Oakland. Wednesday, trap drum phenom Tommy Igoe will hold court with his Groove Conspiracy big band as they feature Santana’s percussion powerhouse Karl Perazo for a special latin night tonight-Wednesday, Oct 6 at 8 pm. All star Jazz trumpeter Christian Scott “Atunde Adjuah” will perform Thursday and Friday evenings. Scott who is enjoying a fine solo career, was part of the critically acclaimed Latin Jazz group “Ninety Miles” which also featured vibist Stefon Harris and saxophonist David Sanchez a few years ago. Saturday, Oct. 9 and Sunday, Oct. 10th will feature Grammy Award winners Spanish Harlem Orchestra(pictured left; photo: Luis Medina) who are busy recording their new collection of music which will come out in early 2022. And if that wasn’t enough, Tito Puente Jr. will bring out his big band who will perform selections off his tribute to his iconic father, “The King And I” on Monday, October 11th at 8 pm. Orquesta La Moderna Tradicion played a phenomenal set at Yoshi’s last Wednesday night, Sept. 29th to a packed crowd. La Moderna Tradicion were celebrating the release of their new recording “En Cantado” with special invited guests: Dr. John Calloway on flute, Jeff Cressman on trombone and Osvaldo Carrabal on coros/background vocals. The band was sounding tight: the violin section of co-leader Tregar Otton and Sandy Poindexter were relentlessly swinging, Marco Diaz was a marvel on piano, Co-leader Michael Spiro played congas and bata with authority. and Felix Samuel shined on lead vocals. The rest of the ensemble were cookin while the dancers squeezed into tight spaces to dance to this irresistible music.
