The annual SF Bay Brazilian Day and Lavagem 2022 will take place at Berkeley’s Casa De Cultura, 1901 San Pablo Avenue this Sunday, September 4th from 11 am to 7 pm. The free festival produced by BrasArte will honor the late, charismatic local champion of Brazilian Culture, Conceição Damasceno

My wife Isidra and I paid out last trip out to Rockys Market at Oakland last Sunday afternoon. We wanted to check out the hot Javier Navarette and his Socially Distant Friends featuring violinist Anthony Blea, trombonist Raul Navarettte (Javier’s Brother) up from NYC, vocalist/percussionist Hector Lugo, guitarist Kai Lyons, guitarist Camilo Landau, saxophonist Charlie Gurke, timbalero Mio Flores and others.

From his roots in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Christian Pepin has played music all his life. His father, a gifted musician in his own right, and mother, a talented vocalist, gave him a set of drums at the tender age of six. As he became older, he made the transition to timbale, then congas, and onto bongó all while perfecting his musical craft.
