Two SF Bay Area Mainstays Tito Garcia & Conceição Demasceno RIP
Two important and remarkable San Francisco Bay Area cultural mainstays, Tito Garcia, the renowned bandleader and timbalero of Tito Garcia y Orquesta Internacional and Concieção Damasceno, the dynamic force of nature: brilliant dancer and leader of famed Carnaval dance troupe Ginga Brasil and co-founder of Casa De Cultura Cultural Center both died this past weekend.

Jose Luis Cortes “El Tosco” , the legendary flautist, bandleader, composer, arranger of NG La Banda, the band that broke Timba, the music genre that has kept seducing Cuba and the world since the 1990’s has died at the age of 70. Cortes died due to a cerebral hemmorage on Tuesday, April 19th.

I’m sending prayers and good wishes to my old friend, timbalero Ernesto “Tito” Garcia who led his big mambo band “Tito Garcia Y Orquesta Internacional” for many years in the SF Bay. He is hospitalized fighting for his life after a bout with Cancer. Tito relapsed due to complications during his recovery.
